In this lesson:
Client Notes allow you to add observations or information about a specific client. These notes can be used to provide context or additional information that may be relevant to the preparation of the return or the client's specific situation.
Examples of client notes include:
- Details about the client's personal situation or financial history that may impact their tax return.
- Information about prior years' tax returns, including any issues or questions that arose during the preparation process.
- Notes about communication, such as phone calls or emails that may be relevant.
Client notes can be added and viewed by any team member with access to the client's account. They CANNOT be viewed by clients.
Accessing Client Notes
The Notes tab in a Client Record is valuable when keeping track of client communication. To find the Notes for a client:
- Go to a Client Record
- Select the Notes tab
In the Notes tab, you can:
- View Archived notes
- Search/filter notes
- Write new notes
- Edit existing notes
Select Expand all or Contract all (to the left of Archived notes) to view the notes as you prefer.
Making a Client Note
You can make a client note from here in the Notes tab and from the Home tab within a Client Record.
In the Notes tab, click into the box where it says "Write a new note..."
You can leave a note title and a note in the Note box.
You can even Pin the note to the top of the Notes list, to ensure that every team member has visibility. It's hard to forget to tell your teammate something so important if you already added a Note for all to see!
