Welcome to Insights in Canopy!
Insights help you monitor the health of your firm through live data, easy-to-read visualizations, and the ability to save and share insights. Without data, you’re shooting in the dark and cannot determine how your business decisions are impacting your firm.
With insights into clients, tasks, billing, and time, you can explore any area of your business in depth.
Note: Each dashboard is available based on the purchase of the corresponding module (Time & Billing, Workflow, etc.).
Insights are only available for Pro users- if you don't have Pro, you can explore your data through Dashboards, which is included in the Standard license. If you're interested in upgrading to Pro, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager to see if you are eligible. Check out pricing details here.
Permissions: Before you get started, be sure that an Admin on your Canopy account has toggled on the Insights permissions for you in the Access and Permissions settings!
Accessing Insights and Navigating the Home Tab
Once logged in to Canopy, you can easily navigate to Insights by clicking the Insights icon on the Global Navigation Bar.
When you navigate to Insights, you'll be greeted by the Insights Home tab. This dashboard provides an overview of your KPIs, liveboards, and answers, and it also allows you to search for existing answers and liveboards.
We will delve into more detail on generating answers and viewing your liveboards in later lessons. For now, here’s a brief description of what we mean by answers and liveboards in Canopy!
- Answers: When you create a search to gather specific data you get an answer or an organized visualization of the data collected.
- Liveboards: A place where you can pin charts, tables, and KPIs to get real-time data about your firm. Think of it as a dashboard hub that holds the most relevant information to you.
First, let's take a look at the layout of the home tab:
- KPI Watchlist: Select what KPI you want to see here. Personalized by you, these embedded strings of widgets live at the top of the page.
- Trending Liveboards: On the right-hand side is an overview of the top 5 trending Liveboards among your users, including how many views each has.
- Liveboards and Answers: The bottom section is a filterable overview of all of the Liveboards and Answers you have created.
You can navigate through each of the Insights tabs (Home, Create Answers, Answers, and Liveboards) by using the menu bar at the top of the Page.
Directly below the top menu bar is the Search Bar, where you can search across existing Answers and Liveboards. Let's dive a little deeper into the functionality of the search bar!
The Home Tab Search Bar
The Search Bar at the top of the Home Tab allows you to search across all existing Answers, Liveboards, and Visualizations that you have access to.
Sources
Selecting a source can help you narrow down your search.
You can select specific sources (Clients, Workflow, Billing, and Time based on which features you are subscribed to in Canopy) from the dropdown menu on the left of the search bar, or search through all sources that you have access to. You can enter natural language queries or specific keywords.
